Outreach at Mt. Horeb
Mt. Horeb members recognize that there is much need in our community, state, nation, and world. In addition to supporting mission programs identified by the Transylvania Presbytery and the Presbyterian Church, USA, we also strive to identify and provide support for local programs where we hope to make a difference in the lives of others.
The Backpack Program is one important program that we support. Mt. Horeb Presbyterian Church partners with God’s Pantry Organization and Russell Cave Elementary School (RCES) to provide supplemental food for students who do not have adequate food. During the academic year, volunteers pick up food (from God’s Pantry), pack 8-9 items per backpack, and deliver weekly to RCES. The RCES staff makes appropriate distribution, to the students, prior to each weekend.
Mt. Horeb actively supports the Buckhorn Children & Family Services Organization whose mission is to provide a sanctuary of health, healing, and hope for at-risk children, youth, and families. See the Buckhorn website to learn more.
With thanksgiving for God’s blessings, Mt. Horeb gives offerings of time and financial assistance to many local and regional organizations. The Transylvania Presbytery and the PCUSA have a greater capacity for research than what our size church can provide.
By following their guidance, we can focus support and financial resources to these much-needed causes:
